The Caves of San José, located in Castellón, Spain, are a breathtaking natural wonder and a must-visit destination for travelers seeking adventure and stunning geological formations. Nestled in the Vall d’Uixó, this spectacular cave system stretches over 2,750 meters, with depths reaching 30 meters, offering a truly unique underground experience.
The highlight of the caves is the San José River, a 2.5-kilometer-long underground waterway, considered the longest navigable underground river in Europe. With a year-round temperature of 20°C, visitors can embark on a peaceful boat ride through rocky landscapes, surrounded by mesmerizing stalactites and stalagmites that have formed over thousands of years.
A visit to the Stalactite Hall reveals some of the most impressive cave formations, while ancient cave drawings offer a glimpse into the past. Thanks to modern lighting and safety enhancements, first introduced in the 1920s, the caves are now more accessible, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of this hidden gem of Spain.
