Join us for an unforgettable hiking adventure in the Sierra Espadán, one of the most breathtaking natural landscapes in Spain. Our journey begins in Alfondeguilla, leading us through the scenic Fonteta ravine before reaching the historic Castro Castle. Here, you’ll explore ancient ruins, including the castle’s tower, remnants of the wall, and the Roman aqueduct “L’Arquet”.
Perched at 787 meters, Castro Castle—also known as Castro de Alfondeguilla—has deep historical roots, with its Arab origins and former use as a Roman watchtower. Its strategic hilltop location offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
After the hike, we’ll visit the San José Caves, home to the longest navigable underground river in Europe, stretching 2.5 kilometres beneath stunning rock formations. With a steady temperature of +20°C, this breathtaking natural wonder is often called “the heart of the earth.” During a boat ride through the caves, you’ll marvel at ancient stalactites, stalagmites, and even prehistoric cave paintings. Thanks to modern restorations and lighting installed in the 1920s, the experience is now safer and more spectacular than ever.
Don’t miss this unique combination of history, nature, and adventure—an experience perfect for outdoor lovers and expats looking to explore the hidden gems of Valencia!
