Murcia is the capital of both the Murcia region and province. Known for its Mediterranean climate, fertile landscapes, and vibrant cultural heritage, it’s a great destination for a weekend trip from Valencia.
The city’s history reflects the influence of Romans, Moors, and Christians, visible in its unique mix of architectural styles.
Nearby, Cartagena is a historic port city that was once the Roman port of Carthago Nova. Its strategic location made it an important center for trade and naval power in the Mediterranean.
Both cities are full of historical landmarks, including Murcia’s charming old town and Cartagena’s Roman Theatre, Punic Wall, and Concepción Castle, perfect for history lovers and curious travelers.
