The Chirel Castle

The Chirel Castle is flanked by the gorges of the River Júcar, at 654 meter above sea level and on the left bank of Cortes de Pallás. This is a charming hiking walk as it involves climbing from the very base to the top of the watchtower where the castle of Chirel is located. The fortress has a Gothic style from the 15th century, but it also has Iberian and Roman remains. For a long time it was used as an operations centre for the royal army in its fight against the Moorish rebels.

We’ll go through an uphill path that offers splendid views, culminating at the highest point next to the castle, from where we will undoubtedly be surprised by the beauty of the place. It is an easy hike, but you should still be prepared: Wear comfortable clothes and appropriate shoes and don’t forget to bring water and food.

Trip Itinerary

09:00 - Departure from Valencia
Please arrive 10-15 minutes earlier at the meeting point: Avenida Aragón 31 (In front of Mestalla)
11:00 - Arrival and the hike
At 11 o’clock the hike will start. The route is 10 km long.
13:30 - Castillo de Chirel
Time to explore the castle and surrounding, have some snacks and drinks.
16:00 - 16:30 - Going to Cofrentes
Once we arrive, there will be a coffee break.
18:30 - Back to Valencia
