The hike to Castell de Polpís in the Serra d’Irta Natural Park (Castellón) is a medium-level route perfect for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. It begins among olive, carob, and almond groves, then transitions into Mediterranean forest with pine, rosemary, and juniper. Along the way, hikers encounter old lime kilns, now stone shelters, offering a glimpse into the past.
The ascent is gentle, with a steeper incline near the castle. At the top, hikers enjoy panoramic views of mountains, the coastline, and Peñíscola.
The hike includes the Arabic castle (10th–11th centuries) at 430m, a great lunch spot with breathtaking scenery. The adventure ends in Peñíscola, famed for its Templar castle, movie appearances, and seafood paella—an ideal reward after an exhilarating hike.
This route blends history, nature, and stunning views, making it a must for visitors to Castellón and Serra d’Irta.
