TIE

Your proof of legal residence in Spain

The TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero) is your official residence card in Spain. Once you have it, you have proof of your immigration status, access to public services including healthcare, and a recognised form of ID for everyday life. Getting it involves a few steps — here is exactly what you need to do.

What you will need

• Passport (original + copy)
• Visa or residence approval document
• Completed EX-17 form (TIE application)
• Recent passport-sized photos
• Proof of address in Valencia (Padrón certificate)

Step by step

1. Fill in form EX-17 before your appointment
2. Book your fingerprint appointment (toma de huellas) online via the Police portal
3. Attend your appointment with all required documents
4. Have your fingerprints taken at the Immigration offices on C/ Bailén
5. Wait for your TIE card to be issued — you will be notified when it is ready to collect
