Get the right coverage and healthcare access from day one
Access to quality healthcare in Spain is far easier with the right private insurance in place — and the options available to expats vary widely in terms of coverage, cost, and network. Choosing the wrong plan, or arriving without one, can leave you exposed at exactly the wrong moment.
We help you compare and arrange private health insurance plans genuinely adapted to your situation and budget, whether you’re looking for individual coverage or a full family plan. We cut through the small print so you understand exactly what you’re getting — fast access to specialists, private hospitals and clinics, and flexible coverage options designed with expats in mind.
1. Do you need private insurance?
Not everyone does. EU citizens who register correctly in Spain and contribute to Social Security gain access to the public health system (Sistema Nacional de Salud), which covers most needs. However, private insurance is compulsory for certain visa types — including the Non-Lucrative Visa and the Digital Nomad Visa — and is often worth having regardless for faster access to specialists and English-speaking practitioners. We help you understand what your situation actually requires before you spend anything.
2. What to look for in a policy
Key variables between policies include the size and quality of the hospital and clinic network, waiting times for specialist appointments, whether pre-existing conditions are covered, dental and optical add-ons, and whether the policy is accepted for visa purposes. Price differences between providers can be significant for equivalent coverage. We help you compare on the variables that actually matter for your situation.
3. Main providers in Spain
The main private health insurers operating in Spain include Sanitas, Adeslas, Asisa, and DKV — all of which have networks in Valencia. Coverage, pricing, and network quality differ between them. We help you identify which provider’s network best covers the practitioners and hospitals relevant to you.
4. Family plans
Insuring a family involves additional considerations — paediatric coverage, maternity, and whether the plan covers all family members under a single policy or requires separate arrangements. We make sure the plan you choose covers your full household correctly.
5. Setup and documentation
Once you’ve chosen a plan, we assist with the paperwork and make sure the policy is correctly documented — particularly important if it needs to accompany a visa application.
