Discover the picturesque coastal city of Peñiscola and the longest navigable underground river in Europe!

San José Caves (Cuevas de San José)

In the heart of the Sierra de Espadan Natural Park flows the longest navigable underground river in Europe! The San José River creates a unique natural cave known as the Caves of San José. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Caves of San José are one of the most surprising natural wonders in the Valencian Community. Inside, cave paintings from the Upper Paleolithic era have been discovered! Travel back in time as you paddle through the calm waters of the river, listening to the echo of the underground lagoon in this stunning landscape.

Peñiscola

A town rich in history, Peñiscola boasts a medieval old town, charming streets, whitewashed houses, stunning beaches, and an enchanting sea. Voted the most beautiful town in Spain, Peñiscola offers the perfect combination of relaxation by the crystal-clear sea and a cultural visit to the Templar Castle of Papa Luna. This medieval castle, perched above the city, offers spectacular views of the bay and was once home to Pedro Martínez de Luna y Pérez de Gotor (Pope Luna). You can also step into the world of cinema by visiting the iconic filming locations of Game of Thrones and El Cid.
