NIE (Foreigner Identification Number)

The NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero) is a unique identification number required for most legal and financial activities in Spain.

It is needed for:

• Opening a Spanish bank account
• Signing a rental contract or purchasing property
• Working or registering as self-employed
• Paying taxes and setting up utilities

The NIE is issued by the Spanish National Police (Comisaría de Policía).

• Pay the 790-012 fee
• Book an appointment online
• Go to the police station with passport and required documents
